Invisible

Invisible

When are we going to finally give more attention to the invisible? Not the hocus pocus invisible. But the invisible that actually matters, and that can mean the difference between life and death?

Is that the good part of the Corona crisis? That we now are being forced to start paying attention to the invisible? The Corona virus itself is invisible. And yes it matters.

The other “invisible” thing that matters: the inside of our body. [Just referring to the physical inside for now — invisible to the naked eye]. And what that inside looks like given the largely unhealthy eating habits we tend to have in our Western world.

Listen to this guy:

Poor diet is worse than smoking, drinking and not exercising combined. His point is that many of us are suffering chronic inflammation due to what we eat. What is driving inflammation? Sugar. What are our bodies running on for fuel? Sugar!

Even if the consequences of that sugar fuelled body are invisible to the naked eye, it’s gotta look really really ugly on the inside.

Here’s the interesting point he is not making, but that I would like to bring forward here. Independent of what we eat is how often we eat: way too often! The typical 3 meals a day schedule with snacks in between (to avoid energy dips) is way too much.. Our bodies do not get a chance to digest and process that food. Let alone to rest in between digesting.

Apart from eating non-health food, the big elephant in the room is this: we are eating way too often! And ignoring that might be almost criminal.

Intermittent fasting is one of those magic bullets: gives the body time to rest and digest; re-learns the body to run on ketons rather than on sugar; allows the proces of autophagy to do its job: cleaning up and recycling old cells in the body. And thus it reduces inflammation.

We really would want to make the invisible visible here: and compare the internal system (organs) of someone who is on an intermittent fasting schedule vs someone who is not (and thus eating 3x a day etc). The difference in “invisible” inflammation has got to be huge.

Of course eating healthy remains important. But adding an intermittent fasting routine on top of that might make for the real magic. In times of Corona crisis it might be exactly the difference between life and death. Yes, there is stuff we can do to protect ourselves. That is one of the other messages of the guy in the clip.

The other good news: there’s way more benefits to such a fasting regime than our physical health.

NOW is the time to get started.
